Through this course I have been able to see the difference in what film is and what it really means, it has made me better at understanding film at a deeper level. The things I learned most is that most films have some sort of cultural difference within them. Most of the problems we see deal with race, gender, class, ethnicity and sexuality. Overall the film industry can't appeal to everyone but I feel that the industry is progressing to help appeal to all persons who feel they aren't heard.

1. This course was definitely unique, and wasn't what I was expecting. But through this course and like many others that I was blind sided by i came to find things that I loved and didn't love. Overall like life and with jobs and careers you will find things that you absolutely love and can not stand like you can learn from class experiences.

2. This course was very different because the workouts we did  were not what I thought when it came to this fitness course. There were things we did that I didn't think of that I really enjoyed and others that I thought seemed silly but gave me a really good workout. Overall you can't always go into a class expecting something  that you have been told. But you need to go in with an open mind and ready to learn.

This assignment helped me realize the changes that I can make in my life that can help me be a better communicator to those around me. It has taught me resources I can look back to that I can apply to my future, even though I have not found what I will do in the future, I know I can use these skills in any setting to get effective communication and be able to work on myself as well as understand others. All my General Education classes are basic knowledge of things that can prepare us for the future. This is a class that I feel should be equally important due to the lack of people's communication skills and how to handle certain situations.   Personal Change.

Through Math 1030 I have been able to grasp concepts that I will be able to use in the future, for example with learning Data and how to collect it as well as find out if the medication is working, one of our group assignments was to find out if magnetic fields would help with pain relief. As we gathered the data and used a controlled group and a group with the placebo. As we figured out the data and changed it into frequencies we were able to use skills we have learned to simplify all that into different categories, we were able to find the mean of the placebo and controlled, the range in which they rated their relief and a 5 number summary or a box plot that helps us visualize what is going on and give us a better understanding as to what is going on with the general group. After we did all that we also added a bar graph and compared the two groups to see if there is any similarities or differences. In the end we were able to see that those who were treated by the magnets felt better relief than those who didn't. By learning this process for the future in a field I might go into I will be more prepared to understand data and be able to make things simpler by solving it using the methods I learned from this group assignment and also see it as a way to help others understand data and make it less confusing. Also by learning this it will help us see a trend in things and wether things like magnetic fields should be used for the future or wether there are better solutions out there for treatment. This is a great resource for people who are going into the medical field or are statisticians.

  1. Understand and explain how particular American literary texts represent the concept of pluralism or diversity
  • Like many of the stories from the books we were assigned to read Walking the Clouds and Sisters of the Revolution we see much diversity through showing different perspectives that we see written in fiction, even though these stories may be fiction they bring up real life problems that deal with diversity. For instance one of the stories The Bird is Gone is an idea that flips the roles of Native Americans and white people. In this we see the way that the natives are treated compared to whites and how there is diversity between the two cultures.
  1. Be aware of different models of American identity embodied in particular literary texts
  • Just like how the natives identity to the whites is viewed in most of these stories as inferior to them and same with feminists. All of the stories show how they accomplish either living through problems that the culture of a general society has and how they flourish and how they can be seen differently because of the normal things in society that show how they are treated lesser than society.
  1. Understand major movements in nineteenth and twentieth century American literary history
  • One of the big issues that we learned about was the Dakota Access Pipeline controversy, this is a current problem that natives have been trying to fight because it interferes with their land and also is polluting water and so they are trying to stop it but for now are unfortunate to stop it.
  1. Be able to identify and interpret different literary forms: the short story, novel, lyric poem, and essay
  • Short stories are that of a normal story only condensed and less elaborate, a fiction narrative that is a normal book length and is with some degree of realism, a lyric poem is that of a song that is trying to express intense personal emotion, a short writing on a specific subject.
  1. Understand how particular historical moments affected those literary forms
  • Because of past things that have happened like how during the revolutionary war we see fighting against the Native Americans and have never been treated fairly since, On the other side of things Women during the early 1900’s were seen to only have a role of being someone who doesn’t have a job and is to only work from home and take care of children.
  1. Recognize the interaction between key American literary texts and their immediate historical contexts
  • Most if not all of these stories are based off of contexts that come from American history because a lot of what we learned in our class was that of unequal diversity of minorities and sexism, we see that these stories although fiction make real cases that can happen or that make relations to reality as far as equality.
  1. Be able to provide a close reading of a literary text that includes an argument about its meaning and cites evidence from the text to support the argument
  • “I have been obliterated for her. I am only a shadow now, far back behind the glib shiny surface of this photograph. A shadow of a shadow, as dead mothers become. You can see it in her eyes: I am not there.” (pg. 228)

  • This part talks about how she felt robbed because her child was taken from her as a mother. But she still felt like a mother and the second thing she felt is that of her identity as a mother because her daughter no longer remembers her and she feels like she doesn’t want to exist.

  1. Reflection:

Through this course I have been able to understand more about how American Literature teaches us the controversial problems we face in the society we have, some of our biggest ones are those of inequality within minorities and those of gender inequalities. As well as the different ways people express them through their fictional writing. One thing that I really enjoyed was the second essay that we wrote about, I chose to write about gender roles that we have in our society and the stereotypes that we have had as far as man and women roles. With that I was able to understand how many of the stories from First Wave Feminism and The Handmaid's Tale the vast inequalities that our system of culture has. The fictional stories show real life problems and manifest themselves to show us what our general society believes in.

PART 1

  1. Throughout this assignment I was able to realize the vast majority of people who consume fast food are either getting to much of certain nutrients and vitamins or not getting enough after looking at a few items on the menu of a fast food restaurant and seeing the nutrition facts. Its no wonder we have an obesity problem in the U.S.

We have been very fortunate to have medical advancements within our lifetime that can help us be more precise on what amounts of things are going in our body. For example you can look up just about any food online and get its facts. Also as we continue to develop technology we begin to understand more how certain vitamins and nutrients effect our bodies through research.

The food industry is definitely winning most peoples favor in the fact that most people go out to eat at least 4 to 5 times or about 18 meals a month which doesn’t sound overboard but it adds up. Overall we see more and more people obese and are seeing it happen at a younger age. With that there are many health problems that come with it such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and many more. As far as money goes the industry is one of the highest paid because of the amount of consumption.

People are becoming more aware of these things which causes them to try to become healthy which is great. Some of these include a Juice diet or a cleanse while is nice is not good long term. Another example would be Intermittent fasting and from what researchers say it can be very beneficial to the body if you can fast. Other popular ones include the Paleo and Keto diets which are very beneficial to weight loss but are strict and hard to do and cost is expensive.

One of the best reasons bacteria is good for the body is because it helps break down and digest foods for example “The most plentiful and important bacteria in the small intestine is the Lactobacillus species. Lactobacillus helps ferment indigestible carbohydrates and, as I mention below, supports the breakdown of sugars in dairy products, which are a common source of food sensitivities. "Digestion & Joint Health Tips & Vitamin Products | Dr. David Williams." Digestion & Joint Health Tips & Vitamin Products | Dr. David Williams. Web. On the other hand the downside if not treated and handled carefully bacteria can make someone very sick and or die, and example that comes to mind is salmonella, Salmonella bacteria live in the intestinal tract of humans and animals and are excreted in feces. Poultry, beef, milk, and eggs all can contain Salmonella bacteria. Salmonella causes problems such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.

  1. Some of the issues that come with weight control is that people are unaware of their diets and how bad they are with overeating. Disease prevention is because contamination of foods and improper food handling. Physical activity should be based on your physical activity and genetics. Food availability is a struggle because so many foods are processes and we see less and less of fresh produce.

PART 2

Nutrition Perspectives

PART 3

  1. Nutrition has always been something I have found interesting and I’ve always known that my diet wasn’t great, In my health classes we go over briefly about nutrition and we learned about having a balanced diet. One thing that stood out to me about this class was the fact that the myplate showed me the macro’s which I have never understood until now and the importance of getting all your nutrients and vitamins for the day. By doing that it can help you get a great balanced diet.

  1. I’ve always enjoyed nutrition and seen it as something that is needed, because I am going in the health field it was awesome to be aware of the deficiencies as well as those things that you should not go over on. I think for me looking at what I eat and making sure everything is within range to stay healthy as well as putting more variety in my diet is something that I feel I want to do to get in better shape as well as share that with others.

Reflection:

Our history seems to repeat itself as far as war goes. It seems to be an un-ending battle. As one war falls, another one is born from its ashes. Our world is getting more violent and dangerous as we continue to advance in technology and weapons. Overall I feel that war will never end. For some reason its the answer for almost everything in this world. If something can't be agreed on, a war is needed to fix it.

HLAC 1096

Taking this class I was able to learn more of the reasons why we need to do things to keep our body healthy, knowing the why makes me want to do it for the benefits. By learning this I can focus by using the tools to measure stress and body functions to see where I'm at to live a healthy lifestyle. I've always loved working out but have only done that, by eating healthy and continuing to mix up my workouts and mix them up to train different things I will be able to achieve my goals. I think the only thing that I thought would be better is that if it wasn't online because its important to hear these things and to see the way things work rather than reading it.

English 1010

Through this course I was able to better understand the writing process and how by effectively using the steps to build a paper and then the different ways we have learned how to write essays according to the type of essay we want to publish whether it is a rhetorical analysis, a issue exploration and annotated bibliography or a consumer memoir, they all have different ways to write it so that they can easily be read and understand in the format that is made.

 Math 1040

Through this skittles assignment I have come to understand better how statistics can apply in simple things in our life like how we found the percentages of the skittles and how they compare to one another in their individual groups or catagories. By doing this I was able to not only find the data but to make visuals of how it looks for those who can not read the data, Or how it can be read and interpreted in different ways due to graphs.

Psychology 1100-407-F15

Psychology has given me a deeper understanding of how different and unique the brain is.  Not only do I better understand my thoughts and feelings, but it has opened my understanding about others.  I am not very patient when it comes to others thoughts or feelings, after taking this class it has helped me step back and realize what they may be feeling or going through.  After taking this class, I have been able to use my knowledge towards my wife.  It has helped me be more sensitive to her thoughts and needs.  What I love about this class is that is has a variety of ways it can help you improve in your life.  The mind is a very precious thing and something I believe society needs to treat more delicately.  Using the knowledge I have learned I believe will help me to become a better father, husband, and worker.

Exploring Art Art 1010.

Module 1:  Ch 2  Visual Elements of Art Essay (Van Gogh)

Van Gogh was by far one of the greatest artists to have lived, his paintings are ones that capture all the elements of the setting and tell someone a short story about the picture, each can be unique in their own way to one another, with Van Gogh's earlier stuff he had a duller look to his art, personally it wasn't as vibrant or as crisp, now they are all have the same sort of art style as you can tell they aren't exactly proportionate to reality but you can still understand what he was painting and see what he wanted it to be. As far as the color, his later artwork was more vibrant and seemed to be more fluid based, even though they might be all fluid based his later ones seem less chalky looking and more oil. With all his paintings he has certain colors that compliment each other in a great way, there is perfect contrast, some of them stay in cool color settings while others are warm and then there are the ones that have opposites that help draw your attention. Something else to point out is in some you notice attention to details like shadowing in certain areas where as the rest of the painting is not. His lines are very thin and loose to the way they look, as if he was very graceful with his touch. Very gentle and soft and trusted in the art to flow and to make something of it. He always had many textures in his art and made it stand out because of that.

Module 5 Discussion:  "Lovin' It" (modern art period) Comments

My two favorite part of the modern art era was definitely Realism and Impressionism. I think something that I really like is that they always have something from the real world that inspires them. There are two differences to me that stand out the most and that is the colors they use, realism is definitely more nature and earthy tones, whereas impressionism is still dull colors but they don't always match up to how they really should be. Also impressionism to me has very different strokes than that of realism. The first piece I chose for Impressionism is Sunrise By Claude Monet. The piece of realism i chose is The stone Breakers By Gustave Courbet.   Courbet stone breakers.jpg

Module 2 Discussion:  Fav Media  Discussion Comments

My favorite type of art mediums are oil paintings, My first paintings is Bull Elk Art Painting Contemporary Western Wildlife Art by Animal Artist Teshia Original Paintings Link (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..This one I love because of the realism along side with the abstract color scheme that is made and how the colors are opposing one another but it makes it really stand out.

The second painting is by Leonid Afremov - Farewell To Anger Link (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. This one is similar to the first one with the realism of the painting but has some abstract colors with the leaves, And once again with the cool colors acting really well with the warm ones to draw attention to the canvas.

English 2010

Through the course of my 2010 English class I have learned many valuable things such as the big part of the class were focused on persuasive essays, Many of these essays were written in different formats such as a formal or informal or directed to specific audiences. The research that we conducted was our choice on an organization that we felt we could write about for the benefit of showing how we could persuade others of what it does and how it helps the local communities. The main topic I chose to focus on is an organization focused on how to help the local pollution, because I found it intriguing that we have so much pollution, so I stayed with the topic through the whole semester. After much research I really enjoyed the topic and was able to see the different ways you can write about the one topic. It was difficult at times to understand the differences between some of them because they were all persuasive, as I read the chapters it stood out to me that the way you write to a specific audience changed the format in some ways. As well as the writing style. With our position paper we wrote, it was a more formal and wasn’t focused on opinions as much as factual evidence.

For our first assignment, we did a simple issue exploration report, I chose a organization called HEALUtah. The local organization was in charge of cleaning up the pollution in the air. This was a fun project to research, and so I continued it throughout the course. In this paper we basically chose our organization and stated facts about it and conducted research about it and if we agreed or disagreed about it. The big struggle I had with this assignment was the MLA formatting so I was able to go back and revise that because the original was not properly formatted.

The second paper was our Position Paper or how we felt about it and how we could help others see why we were for or against our organization. This was also a fun assignment because I love being able to put more input into an assignment rather that just factual. The biggest thing I struggled with on this was repetition as far as words and sentence structure. I went back and revised all the duplicates and sentenced that stated the same things.

Our third assignment was an Infographic of our research, By far the favorite. It was a hard assignment debating what would work and wouldn’t as far as formatting. I tried my best to make it look good and was happy about the final piece I created. It was very difficult to make the layout but after looking at a few examples I was able to balance it out. Overall it made the paper that we wrote fun and exciting to feel more involved.

Our last and final paper was our Photographic paper, this one was my biggest struggle for some weird reason, I had a hard time with all of it because I didn’t know how I wanted to lay it out and it didn’t flow very well, so after a lot of people gave me advise I was able to go through it and make it flow better, it was still the hardest one for me because I didn’t know how to make it different from the previous research other than adding pictures. After I looked at others I felt more comfortable with it.
